Posted by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu said on Tuesday that the new shop would be located in the central market of the city.
“The city government has given the permission for us to build the Afro Craft Store in the Central Market,” he said.
Naidus comments came days after the Congress party government decided to expand the construction of new market areas in the metropolis, including the Central Area Market in Mysuru.
The government has also sought approval for the construction project at the same area.
Naveen Jain, a spokesperson for the department of urban development, told reporters that the department was “actively exploring all possibilities for expansion of the area” in the area, adding that “the city government was in touch with us”.
“The department is actively exploring all options for expansion.
It is very important that we have the capacity to expand.
The city government is working hard on this.
It will be a good opportunity for the people to have an outlet for their business activities in the City,” he added.
The proposed Afrocraft store will be the first store of its kind in the country, which was opened by the Afropublishing Company in 2016.
“We are in touch to explore all options to expand our business in the market area, which is about 6 km by 3 km,” said Naiduan.
The Afropubs, who are owned by the National Retail Consortium of India, is a joint venture between the government and the retailing company.
A new store will mark a major step in the development of the metropolises, with the aim of opening new outlets in other markets.
