The Afro Crafts store at the corner of North Strathfield Street and Macquarie Street is opening soon, the first of its kind in the country.
Owner David Taylor has spent the last two years building the store.
“This is a really exciting time,” he said.
“The Afro is the way to go for people to have a little bit of a bit of an experience in African arts.”
The store is being opened in early October, with a full complement of crafts to choose from.
Mr Taylor said the store was meant to be a destination for anyone who wanted to explore African arts and crafts.
“I wanted to do something that would be accessible and affordable for people who have the time,” Mr Taylor said.
The store has more than 120 products and sells all types of crafts, but Mr Taylor’s passion is the Afro.
“It’s a big part of my identity,” he added.
“When I was growing up, I was very proud of my Afro and I think it’s important for me to show it.”
